Topics covered will include an overall briefing on how local, state, and federal entities operate during emergency situations. This will include a discussion on Incident Command System and Emergency Service Functions. He will discuss how a business should assess their facility and employees. Plans should be developed prior to a catastrophic event and how these plans should be trained on a consistent basis. He will also discuss communications before, during and after an event.
Mike is currently the Senior Security Consultant for Whelan Security. He is a member of a division that specializes in risk management, physical security assessments, corporate investigations, workplace violence training/mitigation and other specialized needs.
Mike is an experienced law enforcement executive with over 30 years of experience. He has developed courses on risk mitigation, active shooter deterrence and response; Incident Command Systems and Principals of Supervision and Risk Management.
In 2017, Mike retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the St. Louis County Police Department. He has extensive experience in investigations, emergency management, special operations, and complex event planning. He coordinated and managed security with the FBI, Secret Service, and FAA for four Presidential Debates at Washington University.
After his retirement from the police department, Mike was appointed to the position of Director of Homeland Security for the State of Missouri. He coordinated statewide emergency planning and security assessments for critical infrastructure throughout the state.
Mike is a graduate of the United Secret Service Executive Protection course, FBI National Academy, and the Naval Postgraduate School Executive Leadership Program. He also attended an Emergency Response training conference and participated in live exercise with Special Forces in Tel Aviv Israel.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management (Graduated Cum Laude) from Sterling College, a Master Certificate in Criminal Justice from Virginia University, and a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University.
