Emerging Technology and the Law

The explosion of new technologies used to support security efforts may raise a range of legal concerns because the law is slow to keep up with technology developments. Some of these technologies have ignited mixed reactions from courts and legislatures. The public has also expressed concern about the use of sensors and the potential misuse of the data they collect. In some cases, technologies adopted and deployed by an enterprise may subsequently be prohibited. Examine recent technology developments and the legal and legislative approaches that can affect their use.

Lindsey Silva is a key technical adviser for security products including facial recognition and bio-metric security technologies for medium and high-risk facilities like c-stores, schools, corporate infrastructures, and public safety facilities. She has depth in scoping the business strategy, requirements analysis and sales engineering process for new technologies and implementation for varying security levels and methods. She involves the client through all stages of sales and implementation cycle by providing security training, documentation, best practices and solution analysis to meet security implementation challenges for each sales client. Lindsey is a current member of ASIS Security Applied Science Ad Hoc Council and SIA’s Public Safety Council.
