Letter from the Chairman

Happy New Year ASIS St. Louis members! I want to kick off this 2018 year with a newsletter providing some important chapter information for the upcoming year.

This year our monthly meetings will continue to be at Syberg’s Restaurant, located at I-270 & Dorsett Rd. The food and service has been outstanding, it’s easily accessible and more affordable for the chapter. In staying with this venue our annual chapter and monthly meeting dues remain the same as 2017. Because I realize everyone’s time is valuable, we will try our best to start breakfast meetings registration at 7:30am and lunch meetings registration at 11:30am. Prepaying for the meetings by using PayPal can reduce the bottleneck at the entry doors so feel free to visit the ASIS website to preregister for those meetings.

One of our priorities as Executive Committee is to find guest speakers with effective content that the majority of the Chapter will find relevant. Starting the year off, in January, February and April, we will have a speaker series with the general theme of “Workplace Violence”. We have all seen in the past year how much workplace violence can affect each of us at a moment’s notice, with or without warning. In March our meeting will be recognizing all past St. Louis Chapter Chairmen. If you have served as Chapter Chair or know of any past Chapter Chairman, please have them attend the March meeting for recognition. We are currently looking at the benefits to moving our Chapter charity golf tournament to May. In the past we have had scheduling conflicts with other groups hosting golf tournaments which has affected attendance and sponsorship. The golf tournament is a big fund raiser for the Chapter and we need to make every effort to have the best event we can for our members and guests. In June we will have our regular monthly meeting but in July, we are changing things up a bit and hosting our first annual tournament style indoor shooting event range. Keep an eye on the website for additional monthly meeting information and other Chapter information.

As you all know the St. Louis Chapter is made up of 100% volunteers. There are many opportunities to become involved and share your skillset. If you are not currently serving on a committee, please consider joining and get involved with the chapter. We are only as strong the people attending the meetings and actively participating in our events. If you don’t know where you can help, just ask anyone on the Executive Committee and we will be more than glad to discuss it with you. Our goal is to see our chapter grow, flourish and be an outstanding organization in the St. Louis Area. Make 2018 the year you commit to helping us make that happen. I look forward to seeing you at our first meeting.
