James P. Shroba – Special Agent in Charge
U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration – St. Louis Division
James Shroba was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the St. Louis Field Division in March 2014. In that role he oversees all of DEA’s enforcement, intelligence, administrative and regulatory activities in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Southern Illinois. The St. Louis Field Division is comprised of 17 offices and over 450 Special Agents, Diversion Investigators, Intelligence Analysts, Task Force Officers, Professional Staff and contractors.
Prior to his appointment to the Senior Executive Service, Jim served in many other leadership positions during his career at DEA. From 2008 to 2014, he held the position of Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the St. Louis Field Division. There, he established the DEA-led Heroin Task Force, a cornerstone of the division’s enforcement strategy to dismantle heroin trafficking organizations.
From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Shroba was assigned to DEA Headquarters where he served as the Chief of Staff to DEA’s Chief of Operations. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the Chief of Operations Office, he supported the global drug enforcement programs in DEA’s 227 domestic and 86 foreign offices.
Between 1999 and 2003, SAC Shroba was assigned to the Frankfurt, Germany Country Office where he managed DEA operations in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic and served as the agencies liaison with all law enforcement and security services agencies. Over his more than 26 years as a drug law enforcement professional, Jim gained a reputation as a subject-matter expert on global drug enforcement and intelligence matters.
An Illinois native, Mr. Shroba holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Western Illinois University.
